"The Boss of my ex-boss is Now My New Boss"

“Come on in, son. Please take a sit.”

(going through a bulky file with papers, my data, my picture, my written reports)

“You did very well. Pretty damn good indeed. I respect you, son. You have gone the extra-mile on everything you’ve been asigned. And I really mean it: you learned the languages, the skills, everything on your own. You never said 'no' to anything we asked you to do. Of course, you may have bent some rules but who doesn’t..I couldn’t blame you for that, somehing like that, well, I believe we all have done that at some point during our lives.”

(putting the papers aside, reclining on his chair)

“Now. Let’s move on, will ya? Let’s talk about the future. You may have seen all the movement lately. The storm that all this chaos has generated: people getting sick with all this crap of Al-Qaeda, the Nigerian student, the failed attack on Christmas, the Yemenite conection.”

“Yes, Sir”

“And also the surprise factor. We should have known better. Trust me when I tell you son, we can not make any mistakes.”

(pondering, looking at his wristwatch)

“I wish I had more time, I would present my proposition in more detail but we’ve got to go at noon; so let’s go to the point: we are running short of everything, time and people and can not afford to keep wasting none of them anymore.”

“Please do so.”

“We are assembling a team and we were wondering if you would like to be part of it.”

“Sir, absolutely. I would feel honored.”

“Are you in?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Very good because I am promoting you two notches over whatever GS rank you may have now. Here, look,. I am signing this memo to make it effective.”

“Sir, thank you. I really do not what to say.”

“Say nothing. Just follow me to the conference room. There will be a briefing with some material, names, maps, codes, we want you to take with you.”

(looking at his watch for the second time)

“Damn, It’s almost noon. I hate make people wait…”

Tarea de campo.

La verdad es que hay que tener cojones.

La mochila que ví el otro día, creo que voy a necesitarla.

  2. Hi Paula.

I no longer cover the Latin American region. At least not now. This could change again in the near future. Everything depends on the needs they have at the time.

    Thanks for reading.

    There will be surprises.
